Does Michael J. McGlynn suffer from Vinny Piro Syndrome?

McGLYNNGATE

Chapter 1 The Dean of Mayors

He's the "Dean of Mayors" in Massachusetts...but he is too afraid --- or too complicit --- to give the citizens transparency on how P/E/G monies are spent.

McGLYNNGATE

Does Michael J. McGlynn suffer from VPS? VINNY PIRO SYNDROME!

A phobia and neurosis so severe that it makes the Issuing Authority conspire with a suspicious non-profit to CENSOR Medford residents so that they cannot utilize their First Amendment Right to the Electronic Soap Box that is their right.

McGLYNNGATE

C'MON, REALLY, what is VPS? VINNY PIRO SYNDROME!

Write-in campaigns by primary losers are not unprecedented

By Ron Newman - 9/27/08 - 8:43 pm

In 1984, indicted Somerville state senator Vinny Piro beat challenger Sal Albano in the Democratic primary. Albano ran against Piro again in the general election with stickers, and won. A messy recount followed, but Albano prevailed. Here's a Harvard Crimson article about that election.
A community cable access TV show, the night before the election, may have played a crucial role.
VINNY PIRO MAY HAVE LOST THE ELECTION IN 1984 due to a PUBLIC ACCESS BROADCAST

THESE PEOPLE KNOW THE POWER OF PUBLIC ACCESS AND THEY ARE MOST AFRAID OF A JOURNALIST WHO HAS A CAREER SPANNING 31 YEARS IN ACCESS TELEVISION

IN EVEN MORE SHOCKING FASHION, THE MAYOR USES THE CITY ATTORNEY, CITY SOLICITOR MARK E. RUMLEY, AS HIS OWN PERSONAL BUFFER!   HE SENDS EVERYONE TO LEGAL, AND CITIZENS HAVE TO PONDER WHY THAT IS?

THE CITY ATTORNEY EVEN ENGAGED IN CENSORSHIP ON THE GOVERNMENT CHANNEL YELLING "FICTION" AND LYING IN PUBLIC ABOUT A POTENTIAL CLASS ACTION SUIT THAT MIGHT BE FILED AND MIGHT HIT CITY HALL MEDFORD.

IT WAS NOT 'FICTION' SINCE IT WASN'T FILED.

IT WAS A REQUEST FOR THE CITIZENS TO UNITE AND FILE A CLASS ACTION SUIT.

Understand?

Rumley ran up to the podium without even READING information that was given tot he Councilors...he yelled "Fiction" and "bravo" with NO KNOWLEDGE.

Now NO attorney in his right mind would do that unless, like Nixon's aid in the FROST/NIXON film, he was just doing it to INTERRUPT A CITIZEN'S RIGHT TO BE HEARD ON THE GOVERNMENT CHANNEL

Bob Maiocco, the re-elected "President" of the Medford City Council, engages in Censorship on a whim. He will tell you that you "can't" discuss Public Access Television... WHY NOT, BOB?

Unless you are suffering from VINNY PIRO SYNDROME as well.

THE LAST THING THE COWARD MCGLYNN WANTS IS TO TAKE THE WITNESS STAND---WHICH WILL MOST LIKELY HAPPEN IN A CLASS ACTION TRIAL

MEDFORD COMMUNITY CABLEVISION: IT'S NOT COMMUNITY, IT'S NOT MEDFORD

McGLYNNGATE

He's the "Dean of Mayors" in Massachusetts...but he is too afraid --- or too complicit --

WHO IS VINNY PIRO AND WHAT IS VINNY PIRO SYNDROME: VPS ???

The Public Access Urban Legend has it that transcripts from the Piro trial (see 2nd link below) were requested by the Public Access TV station and the day before the election Piro showed up at the access station yelling about the performance...and it was captured on television, more of an ambush than Frost/Nixon, one that Piro allegedly stepped into. This is access legend, mind you...true or not (we don't know but we are looking into it) the mythology has created VPS - Vinny Piro Syndrome, whereby elected officials realize the POWER OF PUBLIC ACCESS TELEVISION and they illegally keep residents of a city or town OFF of the airwaves.

Kevin Cullen article in Boston Globe

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/05/21/ties_set_in_concrete/

For much of the last decade, many of Aggregate's political contributions were doled out by one of its marketing guys, Vincent J. Piro. That's the same Vinnie Piro who left office as a state rep 25 years ago in the midst of a bribery scandal and was able to use that ignominious exit to triple his pension by exploiting a device legislators may or may not get rid of in their incredible, relentless drive to clean up government excess.
Give Vinnie some credit. He knew when to give back money: when he figured out the cash he took was from an undercover FBI agent. It didn't save his political career, but it got him acquitted.

What is interesting is that Carl Sciortino won 20 years after Vinny Piro lost...and in the same fashion as Albano!

http://somervillenews.typepad.com/the_somerville_news/2008/09/sciortino-wins.html

HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF:

Carl Sciortino beat Vinny Ciampa, a Medford favorite, 20 years after Sal Albano defeated Vinny Piro.

Sciortino was first elected in 2004 when he upset eight-term incumbent Vincent Ciampa. That year, Ciampa ran an unsuccessful sticker campaign in the general election after losing in the primary. Sciortino is the first successful write-in candidate on the state level in Somerville since Sal Albano was elected to the senate in 1984 without his name on the ballot.

Sciortino, forced to run a write-in campaign after his nomination papers disappeared from his State House office in May, said he won because of a “massive army” of volunteers at the polls on Election Day. According to the Somerville election department, Sciortino beat Trane in Somerville by 72 votes.

Great minds think alike! Clemente21 also refers to McGlynn as Magoo- which I do as well.
Of course it's a no brainer...Jim Backus must be spinning!

HOW MUCH MONEY DOES McGLYNN MAKE?http://www.wickedlocal.com/medford/news/opinions/letters/x1689190668/LETTER-Mayor-says-city-cannot-support-Green-Line-without-more-information
A posting by a "Clemente21" contains this information on McGlynn's salary:

1988 $52,000.
2009 $123,598 base salary

He also earned $12,480 for serving on the School Committee, $1,248 for travel expenses, and $1,100 for longevity. In all, his 2008 pay represented a 5 percent increase over 2007, when he earned $131,669.

McGlynn, who presides over a community of 55,000, is also one of the highest-paid mayors in northern Massachusetts. He earns 31 percent more than Malden Mayor Richard Howard, who makes $105,000 a year in a city that has a population similar to Medford's.

Headline; 'Medford mayor says he can't support Green Line extension until questions answered.'
Translation; Mayor McGoo needs more payoffs and kickbacks in his pockets, from the potential private contractors and lobbyists of this 'proposal', before he publicly supports it! McGlynn is a shameless, shakedown con artist but the bigger morons are the voters in Medfa who have kept this as*clown in office for 21 Years! Enough of this nonsense..

McGlynn, who has served in that job for 21 years, has seen his pay nearly triple since 1988, when he earned $52,000. As the city's chief administrator, he received a base salary of $123,598 last year. He also earned $12,480 for serving on the School Committee, $1,248 for travel expenses, and $1,100 for longevity. In all, his 2008 pay represented a 5 percent increase over 2007, when he earned $131,669.

' 'I work very hard at what I do and I feel that I earn every penny I make,' said McGlynn, SURE YOU DO!! McGoo] whose salary is approved by the Medford City Council. 'I can't speak about other mayors, what they do and what their salaries are.'
